Latest Pictures of the case (remember this is my first case mod so don't be to harsh
)

-=-=-===-=-==-FIRST POST==--=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Hey, I am starting my first case worklog, and my first true extreme case mod. I have some big plans for my case. This project was inspired by many cases here on OCN, especially repo_man's [Project] Phoenix and ice_owl's [Project] Liquid Ice. I will take tons of pictures as I go through the process of building the case.I tend to finish stuff quickly so expect constant updates, and just because I finish stuff quickly doesn't mean I am going to do a bad job, I just tend to really get into things I enjoy
. I have never used Bondo or shaped foam before so this will definitely be an ongoing learning experience.

Here are the supplies I picked up today:
Two Gallons of Bondo
24 Bricks of Florist Foam
Some Plastic Spreaders
Some Breathing Masks
50 Pack of 60 Gritt Sand Paper
Easter Eggs
And in the Back is the Case being modded, a CM690

I have never used Bondo or Florist Foam before. So first I decided to test to make sure the Bondo didn't melt or damage the Florist Foam.

30 Minutes later I checked out the test piece of foam with the bondo on it, and the Bondo didn't seem to cause any ill effects
. Thats good news.

I decided that I am going to put a third 120mm fan on the top of my CM690.

Trusty ol' Dremel

Perfect size, don't worry about how the holes aren't very pretty. They will be covered with Bondo top and bottom.

Thats all I have so far, stay tuned for some updates very soon...

Thanks! hmm I guess my theme would be, Smooth, Sleek, and Clean.. lol 24 bricks of foam, bondo, and a bag of easter eggs.. I never thought I would have heard that combination of words
. There could possible be turbines involved... Definitely a lot of sculpting.

***UPDATE, I told you they'd be very soon
(I am doing my project and posting when I take breaks or get to hot)

Here are where some of the foam bricks are going. (Yes I know they look really stupid rite now)

Bondo action below, I have no Idea if I used to much or to little hardener.. but whatever I did it worked.

I am using the Bondo as glue to stick the foam blocks to the top of the case.

Finished that part... Now I just gotta wait for it to dry...

More very soon...

FWIW, get some scrap cardboard and cut it into 12"x12" squares. You can use those as disposable bondo boards. You'll need a clean surface to mix on all the time.

Holy crap this looks like it's going to be fun.

Finished, my case mod is done you guys like it? lol jk, Now I just have to wait for the front to dry...

Will I put more bricks on the case?? What will I do next???... Wait and see
... More coming very soon.

**Update

Man the heat is killin me, its freakin 92*F rite now. I got some more stuff done though, check it out.

Started sanding the foam down a bit.

I poked some holes in the center of were the fans will be as a guide, then I used a cup about the same size as a 120mm fan, to make the circles.

Dremel with a etching bit.

Made the hole a little bigger with the dremel.

Yes, that is a tiny piece of 60gritt sand paper.

Starting to make the impressions.

Guitar string...

There we go!

Just a tiny bit bigger...

...More coming soon.....

*Addition 3/22/08 9:45pm pst*

For people who would like to know what I have used to cut and shape the foam I will list them.
Small Squares of 60Grit sandpaper (this stuff works great, never clogs and never were out when shaping foam)

Large Sheet of 60 Grit sandpaper (I taped a full size sheet of 60Grit sandpaper to a piece of thick acrylic I had. The acrylic is very rigid and perfectly flat, this combo is great for large areas which need to be the same height)

Large Kitchen Knife (this is a very useful tool, it is great for cutting the foam into all kinds of shapes and sizes)

Exact-o Knife (very useful for cutting off small pieces of foam or for small detail work)

Large Plastic Blue Cup ( I found a cup that was just smaller than a 120mm fan, I pushed the cup into the foam were I needed 120mm fan holes. It cuts pretty well into the foam)

Oh man, I feel your pain!!! I used that stuff for a school project for my son. Little green stuff everywhere :S

It doesn't take spraypaint well just so you know
... I wanted to keep the texture for his project so it took about 3 coats before it started to take color that looked like I wanted it to.

Good Luck with it! subbed

Thanks, I can't really take any credit for the idea itself tho. That credit would go to repo_man.

I ended up getting a box fan, so now its blowing on me which is nice, but it is stirring up all the foam dust everywhere which is a bit annoying.

Yeah I hate this stuff, It works great but it gets everywere! Luckily I am not painting on it directly, its going to get a nice coat of Bondo first.

I am gunna put all the pictures in the first post like you said.

I only removed the lip off the front one and stepped the middle one, I decided that it looks better stepped, especially with what I just did to the front (see pictures below).
