Edit: An overclocking adventure, p35 Q6600

Thread Starter
Ok I've been overclocking my sig rig recently, and 3ghz has been hit nicely. (with sub 50C temps on load)
One problem I'm seeing which I can't find an option for in my bios is unlinking my ram and my FSB.

Right now CPUz says Im at a 2:3 FSBRAM.
Pushing my CPU thusly pushed my ram from it's stock 400mhz to 500 mhz (Q6600 is at 333 x 9 up from 266 x 9 at stock). Also this loosened up my timings to a terrible 5-7-7-19..

Thanks alot for any input

EDIT: I've kinda changed the direction of this thread to now being an overclocking adventure! I want a stable 3.15 or 3.25 ghz OC and any help is appreciated!

Not possible.
Lower your divider to 1:2.
If you chose the automatic setting (Or is it called 2x or something..jeez i forget my gigabyte board already) you'll run your ram at 1:1 which is a good thing.

Also set your timings manually so that they don't have to move up with that speed. 5-5-5-12 should be easily accomplished at that speed.

MB Intelligent Tweaker(M.I.T.)
CPU Host Clock Control Enabled
x CPU Host Frequency (Mhz)
PCI Express Frequency (Mhz): 100
System Memory Multiplier (SPD): 2 (it should be the lowesrt one)

Then below it in grey, it should say the actual ram speed based on the FSB.

yeah you can't make your RAM run independent from the FSB, you have to use dividers. I'm not familiar w/ the bios on your board to help you further.

I'm leaving for my parents and wont be able to help more. So for those that know bios, here is the DS3L Bios OCing menu. But this is a quick rundown...

Advanced BIOS Features
CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E) Disable
CPU Thermal Monitor 2(TM2) Disable
CPU EIST Function (Note) Disable

MB Intelligent Tweaker(M.I.T.)
CPU Host Clock Control Enabled
x CPU Host Frequency (Mhz) 333
PCI Express Frequency (Mhz) 100
System Memory Multiplier (SPD) 800 (with your FSB at 333, it might not be exactly 800, so get it as close as possilbe)

System Voltage Control
DDR2 OverVoltage Control: (default is 1.8v, so check your manufacturer specs.)
PCI-E OverVoltage Control [Normal]
FSB OverVoltage Control [Normal] (might need +0.1 )
(G)MCH OverVoltage Control [Normal] (This is your northbridge voltage, might need +0.1)
CPU Voltage Control 1.30v - 1.35v (this is your CPU's vcore, it might need less then 1.35v, or it might need a little bit more... only testing will tell)

Depending on what bios you have, you might have to press [CTRL+F1] in the main bios menu to access advanced memory timing options.

K So I bumped my cpu to 3.15 (350x9) at a 2 SPD multiplier which put my ram at 1050 mhz and did a prime 95 (small FTTs) test to see my temps on load and I BSOD'd about 4mins in.

Bumped my FSB and MCH .1 going to see how it helps

edit: should I use the prime95 that taxes my memory too to check it's stability?

this was originally posted by ericeod also, i have the same setup as you, i used these settings and i have been as far as 3.6, i run 3.4 24/7 folding.

To get 3.4GHz-3.6GHz with your Q6600 assuming the CPU can handle 3.6GHz at 1.5v or less (this OC is very doable with these settings). These arent difinitive, it is all based on the CPU, but these settings are solid for the board itself and should get you started.

Advanced BIOS Features
CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E) Disable
CPU Thermal Monitor 2(TM2) Disable
CPU EIST Function (Note) Disable

MB Intelligent Tweaker(M.I.T.)
CPU Host Clock Control Enabled
x CPU Host Frequency (Mhz) 400
PCI Express Frequency (Mhz) 100
System Memory Multiplier (SPD) 800 (with your FSB at 400, it will 1:1)

System Voltage Control
DDR2 OverVoltage Control: +.03v (default is 1.8v)
PCI-E OverVoltage Control [Normal]
FSB OverVoltage Control +0.2v
(G)MCH OverVoltage Control +0.2v (This is your northbridge voltage, might need +0.3 when running over 400 FSB with quad)
CPU Voltage Control 1.40v - 1.5v (it might need less then 1.40v, or it might need a bit more... only testing will tell)

Depending on what bios you have, you might have to press [CTRL+F1] in the main bios menu to access advanced memory timing options.
