The C-F team has been working hard since 0.6.2 to add new features to Compiz. I hope we squeeze in 0.7.3 before Hardy is released (lots of new stuff in just one minor version number)

CCSM was designed to be expandable and easy to use for all plugins. If you want a more Beryl-like experience while modifying your Compiz configuration, I suggest trying simple-ccsm. I've personally never used it, but it was designed to be more straight forward and specific to the standard plugins and from some old screenshots, it's a lot more like the Beryl config tool.
