Do I need a new PSU?

Thread Starter
I have a Antec Earthwatt 430W currently powering my system.(the one in the sig). I heard you waste a lot of amps using dual rail. I skeptical about my PSU causing random artifact once in a while in games especially FEAR. My 12V rail jumps from 12.20 to 11.90 when I use ATi Tool artifact scan and that my Voltage Regulator output for the X1900GT seems to jump around 21.83 to 19.10 to 16.

So do I need a new PSU? Thanks

try doing a wattage caculation on neweggs website. roughly saying your system needed 383w. so realistically 430w might be abit close.(should be ok, though) you might be better off with 500w+.

thanks for the quick replies guy. but my 12V rail seems to jump around when I run the artifact scanner under ATi Tool.

That PSU says 360 watts max on the 12v so your pushing it with that setup.

Fluctuating voltage levels is never a good thing, and it is pushing it with that weak of a PSU. May I suggest one of these?

Corsair 520Watt Modular (3 18A 12V rails) $79.99 after MIR and new Google checkout account

or

Corsair 550Watt Standard (41A 12V rail) $54.99 after MIR and new Google checkout account

Unless you are wanting modular really bad I would go with the second link, as it is probably the best bang for your buck anywhere. Corsair is an extremely good brand, stable, and that particular one has a beefy 41Amp 12V rail. Either of those choices will be more than enough to power your rig and will be extremely stable.
