Network Speeds

Alright,
well 2 minutes ago i finally decided to do something with the old P3 downstairs.
Found an old wireless router that was lying around the place. it was broken so i opened it up, say that the wire for the antenna wasnt connected. superglue + tape cuz i dont have a soldering iron and bam, good signal (for a 2$ router. no wait it was 98cents...oh whatever). So i set it up to be an client of my wireless upstairs router and plugged the P3 into it. Got internet out of it everything works nice.

Here's the problem.... when i wanna transfer files to it... (the whole point of having it on) i get ... 10kbps. this is stupid... Its running XP and the laptop im transfering from is a Vista... but for pings... i get 1ms average. And thats from the wireless laptop tahts on one side of the house to the router through like 5 walls of concrete then down 3 floors to the basement to the other router then wired to the P3.

WHERE IS THE PROBLEM!?!?

Sounds like an issue with the P3.

Everything I can think of either points to the P3 being slow (HDD, NIC) or the router being just plain slow (broken maybe).

But i was using that P3 as a Teamspeak server fine... so NIC is ruled out. and as for hard drive... it takes like like 30-45 seconds to boot XP so i wouldnt say that the HD is no good... and i can download things at about 500kbps from the internet no problem... so it should be ALTEAST that...
