well i dont know about your processor but is it only a max of 6x multi? cuz that would really suck, if that's not the case then up your multi to get your cpu clock higher and make sure all of your un-needed processes are closed when you bench, such as that apple-esqe program bar you have on there

edit: i see you have a p35, i've seen those things get fsb's of 500mhz so maybe you should try to pump all you can out of that little processor of yours
edit2:i see you can get at least an 8x multi so either turn of C1E and speedstep or up ur multi

Make sure no other programs could be stealing CPU/GPu power, use the most basic theme your computer can use. (i think that does something)

Wow, guess that didn't help. xD

Yeah a q6600 would sit nicely in that motherboard.

Maybe invest in a second GTS or a new video card all together.
(most would object to the 8600's of being of any value, but i find my GTS to get the job done well when i need it too)

You need to manually kill all of the non essential windows tasks before you run. If you want a bit more, you can go into the services portion and disable things like 'Firewall' and any other un-used hardware in your system.

Next turn all of your Q features to 'Off' using your graphics options.. and experiment with keeping Vsync on while you bench, in some cases it can actually provide an increase in frame rates.
