[GAMESPOT] US gov't investigating PS3's Blu-ray

In February, HD DVD creator Toshiba officially called an armistice in the high-definition video playback wars, saying it would cease production of its format standard and let it fade into obscurity alongside Sony's Betamax. While Toshiba's pullout defaulted the victory in the HD disc war to the Sony spearheaded Blu-ray Disc Association, skirmishes surrounding the format linger on.

The US International Trade Commission said this week that it will be launching a patent infringement investigation of "certain short-wavelength light emitting diodes, laser diodes, and products containing same." Parties named in the investigation include Blu-ray creator Sony, along with 30 other top electronics manufactures, including Nokia, Samsung, Sharp, Toshiba, Pioneer, and Hitachi.

I know you only copy and pasted the original article's headline...but sony only owns about 30% of blu ray intellectual property rights. So it's not just Sony's and certainly not the PS3's. It's just a terribly misleading headline.

I agree, if they investigate the PS3, they should have to investigate every Blu-Ray enabled disc drive.

This "investigation" won't amount to anything more than the government wasting tax payers' money.

They are going to spend our taxes on something either way, its just a matter of if its something they can tell us about or not. At least those dollars arent going towards creating the next generation of WMDs.

...Rothschild claims diodes currently imported for use in "hand-held mobile devices, instrument panels, billboards, traffic lights, HD DVD players (e.g., Blu-ray Disc players), and data storage devices" infringe upon one of her patents...
Rothschild claims aren't going to do anything... I honestly don't think that they would stop production of a gaming system and all the new movie technology out there. Honestly...

no it isn't. Its factual. they are indeed investigating PS3 blu-ray drives, the only problem you have is that they didn't say the other companies being investigated.
