Z-5500 decoder box died.....?

MAN THIS SUCKS...............I was just playing some Frontlines Fuels of War in 5.1 with the analog connection while talking on VOIP, and the speakers just popped really loud and started making random crackling noises.

I thought the sound card either crash or something shorted.....but the SQ is fine......after I shut my PC down I still heard the crackling.

I then turned the power off the amp/sub and disconnected the decoder box.

I heard crackling from the PCB inside there........well I think you know where this is going...

Anyhow I started to take it apart, but I didn't finish because I didn't want to force it off and void my warranty.

Has anyone experienced this? I connected it back up and tested my optical but it won't detect the signal. Before I turned if off I could get a signal from my DVR.....

I also had some problems with the digital coax line earlier tonight when I tried to connect my upscaling DVD player. It didn't have any audio, and I used it earlier this week.....

This sucks. I've only had these speakers for 3 months. I had my X530s for 4 years and they still work today.......
I just checked the fuse too....looks good.....

If you're still under warranty call logitech and they will ask you to go through a little bit of troubleshooting on the phone or whatever and then ask you for your model number, serial number and whatever else and then probably for your proof of purchase and they will send you a new one.. they are REALLY good with their customer service

Yea I'm going to give them a call tomorrow.....hopefully we can get this resolved fast because I NEED my speakers! Headphones aren't the same.....

Wow I just got off the phone with Logitech......they own so hard. I just gave them the manufacturing number on the control box and they said they'd ship one....it will be here in 3-5 days.
Best customer service experience I've ever had....hassle free.
My faith has been restored in the almighty Logitech I have a whole freaking line of their products.

hEY I HAVE THAT LOUD POPPING NOISE TOO !! it happens every once in a while.... but it doesnt cause crackling.. just does the pop.

Really annoying..

Fuse is fine, and all speakers work fine.. any ideas what it is causing this ?

Bad ground maybe ? (not mah fault if it iz !!)

It's definitely the decoder box. I could hear crackling sounds from the box when I unplugged it.
I don't have a receiver at my apartment to test, but I'm about %90 sure that's what it was.

Yours must be different. Mine was LOUD. It completely cut off the sound too, and none of the channels can detect a signal. WHen I turn the box on it just stays at 'detecting signal'

THe first sign of death was earlier in the night when my digital coax wouldn't work...I thought it was a bad cable....even though I just bought the cable a few days prior.
They said I don't have to return the old box, so I'm going to take it apart and see what component failed. I might be able to fix it and hook someone up if theirs dies....(for free on OCN)
