It's a higher binned X38 chipset. Just an incremental update.

Yup... Still, there may be different/tougher validation involved in X48 selection than merely speed binning.

The X48 boards have some slight revisions to the pcb but varies by maker. DFI's are so close that people are using X48 bios on x38 boards. Some Asus boards too but I wouldn't try it on a P5E3 Deluxe; the x48 Premium version has physical differences over the x38 Deluxe.

Newegg (finally) has some X48 boards up... So far they have the cheapest X48.

DFI LP LT X48-T2R for $279.99 + S/H

Interesting... I'll dig up some results and post em here. I'm still hopeful that that the X48 boards will help drop the price of X38s. That's the main reason I have been following their release and pricing

Finally, I will probably hold out and get the Premium. The extra bios options and newer power changes for the DDR3 and NB make this the optimal board for long term use. I would dare say it outshines the ROG X48 boards at least for now.

If I was going with DDR2 board I would go with Gigabyte. 12 phase for the cpu is probably better for the vdroop and whatnot. I wish I had the money now though I held out to long and other things in my life are diverting funds from this build. Alls I got is the q6600 and a new psu.

This review covers the changes on the premium. http://www.techspot.com/review/89-as...-premium-wifi/ The one thing the Deluxe has over the Premium is a more mature bios. If the Deluxe bottoms out in price I may go with that.

Edit: Anyone can confirm if the Premium has the IR remote like the Deluxe? There are conflicting reviews that say it deos and does not.
