Few Questions

Thread Starter
Alright, I've got a few questions

1) How far could I push a Q6600 in my board?

2) I have my CPU at 2.8GHz, at the moment with 1.31v (CPU-Z reading) all other voltages the same... However, to get stable at 3GHz, I need 1.37v, +0.1v on the MCH and +0.2v on the RAM... Does this sound about right?

3) Is 11174 a good 3D Mark 06 score for my PC?

4) I have my RAM at 5-5-5-15 at 1.8v, Stable! I tried them on 4-4-4-12 and it didn't make any difference to my 3D Mark Score, is that right?

Thanks

1) It all depends cause all systems are different (everyone's gonna say this) But I'd say you could do 3.0-3.2GHz with those components.

2) I have the exact same question

3) Yep very good, I'm getting 9992 with current system.

4) Try SuperPI. I tested 5-5-5-15 @ 900MHz vs. 4-4-4-12 @ 800MHz and the lower timing gave me a .6 of a second less. I'd say you'r better off with lower timings.

Thanks man! Good to see you here!

I'll give SuperPI a test with those timings then!

Anybody else got ideas?

I would think you could go 3.5 or so on that chip with your Tuniq Tower dependent upon your temps. As far as voltages they are fickle lil bastards and sometimes even the smallest jump can require a good amount of juice, I run 3ghz @ 1.38 and my temps are acceptable. That is a decent voltage and it may give you headway to go farther. That is a decent score for your rig and a great base to try to worm another 1000 points in there. As far as the ram timing I really do not screw with it that much, it is a balancing factor higher speeds or lower latency, try to find a sweet spot for both.

Hmmm, so I guess the voltage thing is just a pain in the ass thing that happens

I didn't think that the extra 200MHz was worth the extra voltage and a huge temp increase...

I'm going to run a few more benchs with the 4-4-4-12 timings...

I tried SuperPI with the 4-4-4-12 timings and I actually got a worse time...

What about the other questions?

Im assuming your using the Q6600 on the system you have listed.

almost exactly the same as mine (diff brand of RAM)

I got to 334x9 on stock voltage. anything more needed higher I needed more volts.

1.375 in bios translates to 1.392 in cpu-z and cpu-wiz08

at that voltage I am able to reach 350x9 (3.15) stable, with reasonable temps.

Ive tried going to 1.425 voltage and 360x9 (3.24) it was prime95 stable for over an hour, but core# 0 and core# 1 reached 70-72 temp core# 2 and core# 3 were 64.
CPU Temp was 64 (all temps read via pc-wiz08)

the only other voltage change is to my memory (+0.2) to get to from1.8 to 2.0

I was just reading up on diff forums, but really no progress.

may try upping FSB voltage, but didnt need to to reach 360x9 on my E4300.

May be the processor, unfortunately they all dont clock the same, only way to know the potential is to put it in someones system that got to higher clocks and see if it goes.

Only bright spot for me is the 30 day return policy at the store I bought it from... Considering getting a diff one to see if its better..

Hope this helps..

Hey, Thanks for the reply!

Nah, I don't have the Q6600 in my rig, I haven't bought one yet...

I have my E6300 in... I guess what people are saying is right about each chip being different.

If you swapped you Q6600 for another, it may not be as good, then again, I suppose it may be better...

Another thing to consider with these boards is, after doing some research I've found that bios flash to support a few diff things including 45nm cpu's and 1333 fsb.....

gigabyte is a decent manufacturer from my experience, most would just discontinue and move on to sell the new latest greatest rather than give you an option...
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/M...ProductID=2457

I am still looking for a new mobo tho. this one has been great but its over a year old, and I'd rather put my old e4300 on it and sell it than to fry it by upping all the volts to their limits.
