Sounds and Audio Devices problem with XP

Thread Starter
I cant seem to get the Advanced settings option to open up in the Master Audio panel or the Recording Control.

What is happening is the Mic Volume, Line Volume, and Stereo Mix are all grey and can only be muted. When i got to Options>Advanced, the Advanced is greyed out too. Any ideas?

My guess is your on-board audio has corrupt or missing drivers. Open the Sounds & Audio Devices applet from the control panel. Click the "Audio" tab and look under Sound playback. If there isn't a device, reinstall your drivers.

Is there an audio device detected?
-If not, make sure onboard audio is enabled in BIOS
Do you have administrative privileges? (sounds wacky its happened before)

It looks like all of the values are at the same level. I don't really have experience with this sort of thing but maybe I can help.

My guess would be that all of the values in question are being controlled by some sort of integrated volume control. Do you have volume control on your monitor or case? Or maybe the volume is being controlled by some sort of software.

I have had had PC's in the past like this.

Is this a new problem? Have the volume levels always been locked like that?

no they havent, the only other volume control i have is on my keyboard and those drivers are not installed. My main issue is the Mic, with out that i cant talk on vent. Any ideas on how to unlock the advanced settings?

That is the playback option which is the only one i have.

It is onboard sound with Realtek HD Audio
