4 Dimms, can't get 400Mhz, Asus A8N-SLI

Thread Starter
I have a Asus A8N-SLI mobo, and recently bought 2x 512Mb DDR 400Mhz Dimms to add to my 2x 1Gb for a total of 3Gb of RAM. It dual channels just fine, but it automatically underclocks to 333Mhz when i have 4 Dimms.

I have read that this is a problem with A8N-SLI mobos, but all the posts are about 2 and a half years old. I was wondering if there is a fix for it or if someone has solved it.

I have already tried to manually set it to 400Mhz in the BIOS but my computer will not boot afterwards. I am unsure what to change the timings to, so i left them alone.

I am finally going to SLi another GeForce 7800 GTX to my rig and I want everything else to be up to par as well.

Thanks in advance for any help!!

The problem is not just with your board. ANY Socket 939 motherboard will be limited to 166MHz (DDR333) and 2T timings when running 4 sticks of RAM. Honestly, you'd be better off running your 2 1GB sticks.

I really need that extra gig for video editing. So i am going to try to get this to work until i notice my gaming take damage.

Update:
I've gotten it to run at 400Mhz now by changing the timings to: 3-4-4-8. Are these numbers good or bad? I've tested my memory read and write with Everest and they are fast enough to make me happy, but i don't know if I am going to take a preformance hit on those timings.
