2900xt Vs 3870x2

Thread Starter
Well I've been with nVidia most of my life so I want to try ATi. I know the 2900Xt is older, but they're about the same price on Newegg and some say the 2900XT is better so I just wanted to know what you guys think.

I think people are confusing the 3870 and the 2900xt not the X2. And to some degree they are right because the 2900xt has a 512bit bus vs the 3870 which is only 256bit. The only time though you'll see a difference is when the res is set really high, and even then its only a couple of fps.

Yeah, the 2900XT is for all intents and purposes, comparable to the 3870. They have the exact same core, just the 3870 is a die shrink.

In any case, the 3870x2 will perform much much much better than a 2900xt.

3870X2 is way better
even the regular 3870 is better than the 2900xt in relatively modest resolutions

It all depends on the screen size you play on. I'd say if you have a 22in and smaller go with the 3870, if your more than 22in then go with the X2.

Resolution not screen size.

Absatively. For instance my Uncle's 65in DLP is 1920x1080 capable and works rather well for gaming, as I discovered when I plugged my sig rig into it. My single 2900XT ran everything at that resolution with pretty much no noticeable change from my normal 19in 1440x900(CoD4, Bioshock). In your case go with the 3870x2.

Res is what I meant.
