Max memory supported by windows xp-32bit?

Thread Starter
Title is basically the question... does windows xp 32 bit support 4 gb of memory. Also... is it worth it to upgrade from what I have at the moment, 2 gb g.skill hz to like 4 gb g.skill hz?

Thanks in advance!

It supports 4GB total. So if you have 512 Video RAM, then it'll support 3.5GB System RAM.
If you have no dedicated VRAM, then it'll support all 4GB of system RAM.

the most you will see is 3.5 i believe. you will see an improvement in performance if you upgrade, not as much as a 64bit OS, but you will see an improvement.

edit: i have 4 gigs, my sig, right now its showing 3.4

although the system loads all 4 sticks evenly (corsair ddr with the leds), it is only actually using 3gb.

Any 32-bit operating system can only address 2^32 bits of RAM, which is 4GB. Since PCI devices are memory mapped, any RAM that they use needs to be part of the address space that the OS references. If you use 4GB of RAM, this will mean that the memory from your PCI devices will therefore "overlay" a portion of your RAM and cause less RAM to be visible to your OS.

For example, if you have two 512MB video cards in SLI mode, you will only be able to see a total of 3GB of ram.
