Best Headphones under $250?

I'm looking for the best quality Headphones for under $250 with a seperate mic. If a standalone amp is a good idea give me some options.

I heard Sennheiser and Audio-Technica were some of the best.

Thanks!

Will this be for gaming? Do you want open back or closed back? Will these be used a lot in a quiet setting? How big is comfort to you? What kind of music do you listen to? Will these also be used as portable headphones, if so, with what? An Ipod? Zune? How about the looks of a headphones? If an amp is suggested, do you want it to be ultra portable or just regular?

Any cans over 150$ will more then likely need an amp, so . And then there is the issue of the interconnect... haha.

Some off the top of my head - DT770 Pro80's (180$ish), ATH-A700's(130ish), AKG- K81 Dj,Sennheiser HD-580 with 650 cable (220ish + cable, but you can find em as low as 160$).

The HD650 cable doesn't fit the HD595. HD580, HD600, HD650, and a few lower end ones.

Ah, sorry you're right, I meant to type 580's with 650 cables and 600 griles. But recabling is always an awesome decision .

But yes, it depends on what equipment you have and what you want to use them for. AKG K701s, Sennheiser HD600s (or HD580s with HD600 grilles and an HD650 cable), maybe Denon D2000s, Beyerdynamic DT880s or DT990s, the list goes on and on.

before good recomendations can be made the OP needs to update with what he/she plans to use them for and what source they have.

it is probably safe to assume gaming will at least be part of the planned usage and the Elite Pro to be a source...

Going from that we'll need to know what percentage of time will be spent gaming and what percentage watching movies and listening to music, and what genres of music.
We'll also need to know if it will be in a noisy or quiet situation, or of the OP needs to keep other people from hearing what they are listening to.

Thank you for all your replies.

I'll use them primarily for gaming, but I do watch plenty of movies and listen to a lot of music. I will use them almost entirely on my computer. It's pretty quiet in my computer room so noise isn't an issue.

I hope that narrows it down for you guys.

Thanks again.

I'm loving mine. I say get the Beyers and a decent amp in that pricerange, and you'll be set. There's a pair of DT770 Pro 80's on Head-Fi for like $120 or so.
