OCZ GameXStream + 3SLi and Quad SLi

Thread Starter
Hi guys, I've basically looked through a list of PSUs available over here and decided to go for a OCZ GameXStream 1010W (OCZ1010GXSSLI-EU) since it only costs like 35$ more than the 750W Silencer/Quad version.

The question is: could I go with 8800 Ultra X3 SLi / 9800 GX2 X2 Quad-SLi with this PSU? I've checked that it only has 4 x PCI-E 6-pin and the Ultras take 2x 6-pins X3 which 2 more than the PSU has. I think I could go with the 9800 GX2 Quad-SLi since there are 6->8 pin converters out there?

Computer specifications:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450
Asus P5N-T Deluxe
XFX 9800 GX2 (x2)
OCZ GameXStream 1010W
A-DATA DDR2 2x2GB Extreme Edition DDR2 1066+
2x Western Digital RE2 500GB

For the ULTRAs you could get these

And for the 9800GX2 they come with the adapters that you will need for them. I am wrong on this and sorry for the bad info. Here is a link that will explain more info and suggested PSU

If ur going 3 way sli 8800 ultra buy PSU's from here

I would recommend the Thermaltake Toughpower 1200 Watts

Can't order from there. They do send to Finland but not to Estonia which is just 1 country to the south from Finland! Any other ways? None of the OCZ Mod/Game XStreams don't support the 9800 GX2's? Even one of them?

I think PCCooling makes the best PSUs. I don't mean all others are crap, just sayin. I have the 860w that comes with exactly all the connectors I need for my two 9800GX2s.

I found out that I could get Thermaltake Toughpower 1200W but that's crazy overkill, I'll see if I can find anything cheaper.

I think I will just get the OCZ GameXStream 1000W and use 6->8 pin converter.

Do NOT get the OCZ PSU because it only has four PCIe connectors and if you use Molex to PCIe adapters you will be putting graphics cards on the same rail as all of your Molex connectors (hard drives, optical drives, fans, etc.)

Rule of thumb: NEVER buy a PSU with multiple +12V rails with the intention of using adapters to accomodate extra graphics cards' power connectors. Always buy a power supply made to do what you plan to do with it. 3 way SLI? Use a 3 way SLI capable PSU (six PCIe connectors).

If the PSU only has one +12V rail, you won't have a problem, but I STILL don't like using shoddy adapters to power my graphics cards.

Those 2x4pin to 6pin adapters are a good solution, but when I bought my GTX it came with 2 of them, I would beleive that Ultras come with them to.
