Stupid router HELP!

Thread Starter
Hey everyone, I need some help with my router before I start using it as an airsoft target for my MP5.
So basically I have a Linksys WRT54GX4, latest firmware and starting a week ago, it drops connection on all computers, my PC is the fastest to recover the connection (vista > XP) but sometimes I have to disconnect from my network and reconnect, or even worst, go all the way down to the basement to reset it.
What I did so far:
-Turned on WEP encryption to make sure it wasn't another PC causing issues
-Tried several channels on the 2.4GHz band to make sure that there aren't any interference
-Disconnected modem and router, connected the PC to the modem to acquire a new IP, two minutes after I turn on the router and connect the PC to the router, and internet keeps on dropping
-I read all over the net people complaining about this issue, but it just started happening randomly after working great for 2-3 years
-Cloning my PC's MAC to the router
-Reflashing the firmware
-DHCP Release/Renew
-Looked for a tomato firmware but I don't understand how to load it onto the router.

Thanks everyone!

I had that issue at 1 point too and when I swtiched over to the DD-WRT firmware it seemed to have solved it. Not sure if it'll help any for you, but it couldn't hurt, it's a great firmware. Make sure it isn't overheating as well, a lot of people don't really think about heat with routers and I have seen some funny things happen when the router starts to overheat (don't forget, there's a CPU in there too). Maybe try blowing out any dust and making sure it is in a place with good ventilation?

You had this issue with the WRT54GX4 exactly? If yes then I can flash the DD-WRT firmware to it?

I'll try that but before I'm going to check if the router isn't overheating, but it's elevated, away from heat sources so I don't understand how heat could be a problem. Gonna try that now!

Yeah, I have a WRT54G and their firmware always sucks. I flashed to DD-WRT a long time ago

Not risking too much. I've have bad flashing experiences and I was always able to flash back to default.
