No way man. The 8800GTS 512 is just as good, if not better. The only card worth buying is the GX2 is you can't SLi.

The 9800GTX is the exact same GPU. There was nothing changed.

He has a GT, not a GTS.

It's not worth it, wait till the next series man. Unless you have problems playing your games (which, your rig shouldn't), don't bother.

Except a much, much beefier power supply section, and newer revision G92-420 core, whereas the 8800GT has a G92-400 core. I am guessing anywhere from 100-200 higher on the core clocks than your average G92 GT or GTS.

I'd definately wait until you see benchmarks.

True but 9800gtx has tri sli. Not that it really matters.

I know he only has a GT there still is no gain in performance.
I dont think there is a major need to upgrade just yet.
I would wait and see what results they get in games and 3dmark06 etc.
Nobody is totally sure what the 9800GTX is going to bring yet, even aspects of the GX2 havnt been seen yet i.e. Quad SLi
Anyway an 8800GT is still a good card, it will be able to run games into the near future, apart from crysis obviously.

The 9800GTX is the exact same GPU. There was nothing changed.

Do you actually have factual evidence for any of that?
Yes the GTX is the same GPU as the GTS, but it is a different revision... thus different..

They didn't just rename the GTS the GTX and up its voltage.. nvidia isn't that bad

I run crysis completely playable at 1440x900 every setting on high, with just minor dips into the high teens and 20s in huge fights (and goddamn ice scenes and I don't know why)

Remember when everyone was saying that the 8800GTX was EXACTLY the same as the Ultra, and then everyone found out that the Ultra's were binned better and therefore clocked higher?

IMO the performance difference between 8800GTS G92 and 9800GTX G92 will be MUCH more than the performance difference between 8800GTX and 8800Ultra.

Everyone said the Ultra was a waste as well, but that didn't stop anyone from buying it... nor setting records with it.

I had the same setup as you exactly (sold my Q6600) and with it at 3.4Ghz and my 8800GT at 700 core, I sometimes dropped below 20fps @ 1440x900 and Very high. After the 1.1 patch I never dropped below 20fps.

Honestly all of my dips went away as soon as I had a quad, IMO required for smooth play in Crysis. My E4600 @ 3.0 can't quite hack it.
