depends on how much you're willing to spend... x1650pro is probably the best performance:cost... anything more expensive than that and you might as well build a new PCI-E system
post #3 of 14
the BEST right now is the 3850...

Keep in mind that the same card can be had for 150$ on a pci-e platform. Please fill in your system specs (under user cp) so we know what you have. Thanks!

bingo...btw dont let the specs fool you...all x1650's are 500mhz core clock unless oced, all x1650 pro's are 590, both of them have 800mhz memory...don't make the mistake i did...
I would recommend an x1650pro or if you're willing to spend a little more, an HD 2600PRO, but I don't think that its incredibly faster...

Honestly, find a 5200, 5600, or 6200 PCI. It will save you money, and with a system like yours, won't cause any major bottle necks. And it can be used as a backup if you need it.

true, but keep in mind if you're going to buy a new system next year, you don't want to be stuck with a 200$ agp card.

actually the asus board im buying has agp and pci-e video slot the pci-e slot only runs at 1x so its no faster than agp8x it uses either ddr or ddr2 ram with only a 2 gig max though thats why i was leaning toward the 2900 but thanks killer and drj i think the x1650 is the way to go for me right now only 70 bucks at new egg right now and i dont see ppl having so many problems with it besides pc illiteracy

one more thing...pci-e 1x, if it can fit a normal pci-e card will be VERY slow...check out this chart...
http://www.orbitmicro.com/support/re...efinition.html
as you can see pci-e 1x is 500MB/s agp8x is 2112MB/s...that may be a bottleneck...

lol i bought this...http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...14102086...was 69.99 at the time...but...
so was this...http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102073...
now my return period is over, and I'm stuck with a slightly slower card for no reason except bad advertising on newegg...
