OK, it is as I feared. I ran Prime95 for hours last night at 290 HTT. This morning, I set it to 300 HTT, and Prime95 halted within 5 minutes.... I doubt voltage adjustments will fix this...

I'll play around with the BIOS a bit...

Well there is nothing I can do... until another BIOS update becomes available....

Time to tweak the RAM. The only possible HT is at 870MHz

So i'm starting to work on the overclock abilities of my system, which is backed by a Phenom 9850. I decided to start with the memory on the system and have it pushed from 667 to 800 right now. Have to leave town so won't get to play with it much for a few days. Since I haven't custom built in a while I thought I'd ask if anyone had a suggestion for a mobo monitor software right now. Did some basic checking and didn't see much....

I was just using my case to monitor the temps. I would feel the heatsink. If it's warm, its ok. If it's hot, it's not ok. lol, I couldn't find anything accurate enough.

El Matador, I personally run Everest Ultimate Edition. It's an excellent application. It does monitor temperature readings. That's what I mainly use it for but it offers various other options too. You can downloaded the trail version by going here: http://www.lavalys.com/products/down...?ps=UE&lang=en.

Good luck

All good ideas so I appreciate the input. The other thing that I am thinking of doing is getting a contact thermometer and strapping it to one of the heatpipes on the CPU fan... anybody ever tried anything like that? Although I suppose in a way that I am not terribly worried about heat after I MacGyvered a backup cooling system --- I took a deskfan (about 9" and variable 3-5000 RPM) and bolted it onto the side of my case where the window used to be. So I've got that, a 120mm CPU fan and two 80mm case fans going. Now the fun part is going to figuring out the actual overclock variables. Anyone got any suggestions for combos that work on the Phenom 9850?
