8800GTS G92 Overclock - Page 4

Haha! True!

I have all my fans on medium, except the top 200mm and the Tuniq on full, so my PC is "fairly quiet". I'll give your settings a go and see what happens...

What should I not let the temp go over?

GFX cards are usually safe up to 90C or higher. These cards run cool, but as I mentioned, I seem to get more stability under 63C or so.

I've got it running @ 740/1890/1030

When I test for Artifacts, I notice that there's a whining noise coming from my PC, what is this?

Also, does gaming stress the GPU out as much as ATI Tool does, or not?

It's probably a coil choke, transformer, or other part of the power regulation circutry on the motherboard and/or PSU vibrating under the changing load. It should not be a problem.

ATiTool generally stresses the ROP and texture units more than most games, but it cannot stress the shaders or the memory very well, most especially the later. I recommend 3DMark 2003 to stress the memory, specifically tests 2 (Proxycon) and 3 (Troll's Lair). As for the shader clock, best test I've encountered so far is extended play of STALKER with max details and full dynamic lighting. Crysis and 3dmark 06 are also acceptable.

Make sure you go in to ATiTool's settings, then artifact scanning, and drag the slider all the way to "more artifacts, lower overclock". Any "delta", or any flash of green, or yellow, in the test window is an error, even if ATiTool does not detect is as an artifact.

ATiTool's artifact test is stable for 8+ hours on my system at 802/1890/1053, but the actual 100% 24/7 stable clocks are what is in my sig (783/1836/999).

I've seen virtually no difference in stability or the clocks I can attain at stock voltage from 53C load to 70C load. After 70C, max clocks are reduced. Stock clocks are stable all the way to 95-100C.

Ok, so it's nothing to worry about? Thanks!

At the moment, I'm testing it out @ 760/1890/1030...

Is that a pretty good OC?

That is a reasonably good OC. I'm quite suspicious of the memory clock, unless you've got samsung ICs on there (in which case they could be doing 2100+). I haven't seen a single Qimonda based 8800GT or GTS 512 that was "really" stable over 1026 on the memory. Still, those clocks look good for ATiTool.
