has ATI/AMD actually "stated" that its limited to 4 GPUs? or could they have not said anything to make everyone think this is the case?

would be funny.. ATI bluff to make nvidia slack off.. and then tear nvidia a new butt with 4x 3870x3/4's in CF
Yes, its limited to 4 GPUs, hence why we can't have 4 X2s running on the same system.

Now if they didn't did build this "proof of concept" with notebook modules... build it from the ground up to support Dx10.1

But they are dual slot cards.. you would need 8 slots to run it, and probably a server case.

Holy crap!!!! Maybe it will be possible for me to get tri-cfx on my IP35-e with it's single PCIe slot!!!

Now they just need a single card quad 3870 solution!

daaayyuuum. that thing better be good, i knew it would only be a matter of time before ati had gotten 3 gpus on a card, too bad that ati isn't using amd's idea with the tricore cpu and making a tri gpu core. that would be a major step on their part especially making a quad gpu core, and the cards wouldn't really get any bigger. i mean think of it, HDXXXX x8, two quad gpu's on one card, the power that would have.....

to nathris, yes it's only limited to 4 GPUs, for the time being, i can't wait to see what will happen in '09 and the HD5xxx series?
Oh just to clarify, CFX is not limited to 4 cards. You can use as many as you can hook up and fit. The problem becomes the diminishing bandwidth available on the PCIe bus.
