M1210 Memory Upgrade Q.

Thread Starter
I currently have 2GB of the OEM Dell Memory.

I would like to bump it up to 4GB. I have always had excellent results with Mushkin RAM. But I am unsure if the M1210 Mobo can support the upgrade I am looking at:

(2x2GB) PC2-6400
Frequency: 800MHz
Latency: 5-5-5-18
Parity: Unbuffered
Voltage: 1.8V
Pins: 200
Module: 256Mx64
Chip: 128Mx8

They offer it as 2x 2GB, but does this mean they can be run Dual Channel Mode?

Here is my current memory specs.

DDR2 SODIMM @ 5300
Unbuffered
2048MB Total Installed

• Slot 1: 1024MB 64Mx8
M4 70T2953CZ3-CE6
• Slot 2: 1024MB 64Mx8
M4 70T2953CZ3-CE6

You can easily upgrade to 4GB Ram and they'll run in dual channel config as ur lappy has two slots!!

More info - http://www.memorystock.com/memory/DellXPSM1210.html

Here's a review of ur lappy - http://www.notebookreview.com/defaul...S+M1210+Review

Man! i gotta say, u have an awesome lappy!!

Here also it mentions that max ram is 4GB!!

----
For the RAM speed! -

The max ram (speed) ur lappy's mobo can support is DDR2 667Mhz!!

i.e. even if u put a Mushkin DDR2 800Mhz RAM in it, it'll get underclocked to 667Mhz!!!

Ur Laptop's motherboard i.e. Mobile Intel® 945PM Express Chipset
supports only 667Mhz FSB Processors, therefore any ram above DDR2 667Mhz wouldn't show any change in performance!!

The above link to the mobo specs also states that the max your board can run is DDR2 667Mhz ram!!

I think u should stick with DDR2 667Mhz RAM!!

----

Even the new santa rosa platform (PM 965 chipset) doesn't support DDR2 800Mhz RAM, in spite of supporting 800Mhz FSB processors!!

Thought u might be interested!!

U might also be wondering why!!

I highly recommend u should check this out too!!

Hope this helps!
