Bootable USB: How do I make one? (USB ISO)

I want to make bootable USBs to I can install BSD and other OSes from a USBrather than burning it to CD/DVD and whatnot.

Problem is, all I ever see in the tutorials is "Step 1: Make a bootable floppy disk". I don't have one! How else can I go about putting bootable ISOs onto a USB drive?

Google is your friend, eh? I looked at that too, but bootCD.info is gone, and Barts is discontinued.

This may help - no floppy involved, just a CD-burner:

It's persistent too, ie it won't forget your settings upon reboot.

Edit: and you may want to pay attention to the note at the bottom, it happened to me:
Note: If your having trouble getting Ubuntu to boot, your memory stick may have a corrupted MBR. To repair the MBR of your USB device, at the terminal type sudo apt-get install lilo then type lilo -M /dev/sdx (replacing x with the letter of your flash device)

I'd recommend doing that anyways, just in case.
