Conflicting readings.. can anyone help?

Thread Starter
Hi, first of all let me say right off that I've never overclocked before, but I've been doing a lot of reading about it and got alot of recommended programs, but theres too much conflicting readings that I'm getting before I even start overclocking. My new computer that I wanted to overclock is:

E8400 CPU 3.00mhz
Gigabyte P35-DS3L
4GB 2x2 OCZ XTC Platinum DDR2 800 Ram
500GB WD5000 Hardrive
SB X-FI XtremeGamer Soundcard
Galaxy (KFA2) Nvidia 8800GT
Windows Vista 32bit w/ Service Pack 1

It came built and fully assembled and tested.

Now nothing has been overclocked, I tried a little bit with Rivatuner and EasyTune Pro5 but I reset everything to default. My problem is that everything I'm reading is different and Im not sure what to do. I have CPU Z and Everest Ultimate full version.

Some of the problems:

CPU speed: CPU-Z says the Core Speed is 3000mhz, but after a few seconds it goes down to 2000mhz and even 1999mhz, and then it keeps going back and forth and stays like that, while EasyTune Pro 5 read it at 3000mhz constant. Everest Ultimate also says the CPU clock is at 2000.0mhz (Original 3000mhz)

RAM: I installed windows Vista Service Pack 1, now windows Welcome Center says that I have 4gb RAM, while Everest Ultimate says I still have 3328mb.

This is driving me crazy and I don't know what to do! Can someone please help me?

well, for your cpu readings, it it because you have intel speed step on, so if you dont have a program that uses a lot of cpu power it underclocks it to save power and generate less heat, cpuz is reading the real time, and dont worry about it going from 2ghz to 1.99ghz, thats normal.

as for your memory, with vista sp1, it allowed it to "see" all 4 gigs of memory in a 32 bit os, im not so sure if other programs will be able to utilize or see it proper how ever, hopefully someone with more knowledge on this will stumble upon the thread, good luck.
