Flashing 8800GT questions!

Thread Starter
Hey guys,
Since my OC doesn't seem to pass such a high number I was thinking of flashing the bios although the idea alone scares me. Now I know there are a lot of guides, but can you guys suggest a step-by-step guide that I can use, I need to know every detail there is to it. Also I was wondering if and how I can recover in case something goes wrong? What CAN go wrong, and how can I avoid it? One last very important thing; How do I know what's a safe speed for my card, since it doesn't go so high with rivatuner?

I think that's it for now.

Thanks,
Alex

What is the benfit of flashing the BIOS? Unless it loosens RAM timing to allow a higher RAM speed, or gives a higher voltages, then it will do nothing that can't be done with OCing programs.

As far as flashing, many things can go wrong. You can fry your card. If you have a bad flash, there are 2 ways to reflash to stock BIOS. (be sure to save a stock BIOS before attempting)

1) Flash using a PCIE card with the display provided by a PCI card

2) Blind flash. Basically, flashing blind with no display. You need to type in the commands step by step without seeing what you are doing.

if you can't reach a certain stable clock using rivatuner (or something else) than what makes you think flashing it higher will yield anything? (you'll just end up killing your card)

Added voltage Pretty common practice, I've yet to try it though

dr4gon: that's why. Wouldn't adding voltage allow me to OC more?
