Questions on HTPC

Thread Starter
First I would like to say that I know very little about HTPC (not sure if my thread is even correct for this section).

What I would like to accomplish is to watch my subscription cable on my PC through Vista's Window's Media Center.

My PC was originally built for gaming, (q6700, 780i, 4GB RAM, 2x 8800GTS in SLI, etc.)

I have a digital cable subscription with Time Warner in which I get lots of channels, including HBO/Showtime.

From reading things that I searched on google, all I need to do is get a TV Tuner and call Time Warner to bring a CableCARD to hook it up with the TV Tuner so that I can access all my channels on my subscription.

Is it as easy as this? Am I missing any steps? How can I find out if my PC supports digital cable? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Edit: Any recommendations on TV Tuners?

that is pretty much it. you will need a cable card or a cable box to pass the encrypted channels to the pc. you will connect the output of the cable card or cable box to the input of the tv tuner. some tv tuners can display unencrypter cable channels that are broadcast ota, but there arent many channels and if you have a cable subscription, you will get all the channels through that route anyways

the highest input available on a tv tuner so far is svideo, which only supports sdtv resolutions. so even if you watch a hdtv channel, it will be in sdtv resolution (480i)
