well considering the OP is looking for the CHEAPEST chip to do that speed
the 8400 should not even be an option nearly 75% price difference in the 2
the P.D aint that bad a chip yes its netburst (old) yes it gets a little warm compared to c2d but mine was superb for games & whatever else
slowish benching but if that aint a concern ...go with the mighty ..D.. lol

Core 2 Duos is good for overclocking. Ask for advices.

Core 2 Quads need more cooling.

I Have the 925 and I have it running at 3.615 on the stock Intel Fan and it runs at 42 C that is with 2 extra fans drilled into side and top of case though. so with a bigger air cooler you could get up to 3.8 no problem.
