My feedback on this mod:
1st off, it's pretty damn cool, noticeably improved everything except sound. The new music is cool, but it just kinda seems like the 'balance' or positioning is a little off, you have to be really close to people/noises for them to be very loud. Exploding barrels sound really weak. Guns sound a bit cooler. However, HDR is way outta control bright in some spots - I often can't even find my targeting reticle from all the brightness in a lot of outdoor areas, so that's annoying, need to find a way to tone it down a notch. I also enjoy the subtle touches like the Wanted:Alyx Vance posters, and the 'Gas or Ass, nobody rides free' sticker on the dashboard of the van (the one dog throws you across the ravine in) in EP1, with the stick figures humping on it. That one cracked me up...
I'm getting used to the new Alyx face, but prefer the old one. I'll take her new body/outfit though
I gotta love her ... specially since its so obvious she really wants to jump my bones, too.
ANYways, some good news on specs and performance. Ran this on my sig rig last night.
1) I see no reason why you need 3GB of RAM, at least not for EP1 and HL2. A quick check of RAM use showed HL2 using like 200-250MB while it was running.
2) I see no reason why you need 64bit OS, at least not for EP1 and HL2.
3) I do NOT OWN EP2.
4) Even without changing my user space or whatever, both games worked perfect. No stuttering. Everything maxed except for HL2 I set 8xMSAA, for EP1 I set 4xAA. Not cause I had to, I was looking at fps well in excess of 100 in both games at those settings. I used those settings because I was monitoring VRAM usage, and usage crept up pretty high on HL2 towards the end of each level, sometimes reaching 700MB when I had 8xMSAA set, so I just figured I'd go 4x for EP1 since it seems a bit more demanding. But even when using way over my 512MB of VRAM, the game was smooth as silk, with no stuttering, and no problems at all.
All in all, an amazing piece of work, kudos and thanks to the author and the poster who gave us the heads up.
2 Gigs RAM in XP, and only having HL2 and EP1, I can confirm as running, and running fine.
