Versatility is the main drive for innovation in the computer world. When something is invented, at least in the computer world, it not only has to be "something great that no one has ever seen before", or be backwards compatible so it can survive in the market. Balanced Technology Extended (BTX) offered a considerable improvements over its predecessor's Advanced Technology Extended (ATX) motherboard design the was introduced by Intel in 1995. So why is are we still using designs from back in 1995? Lets find out.

BTX boards require a complete remapping of the layout of ... everything. Similar mappings as ATX boards required more layers. Motherboard manufacturers love making more expensive to build/manufacture boards, that will fit in fewer cases and reach a smaller audience

lol the only reason intel ever came up with BTX was those space heater prescotts. anyway it was doomed to fail. no one besides them and dell was interested.

The only reason BTX was considered was because processors at the time were running hotter and hotter. That's no longer an issue. That's the real reason BTX is no longer needed. There's no reason to try to solve a problem that isn't there anymore.

It's doomed and try finding a BTX motherboard.

This is isn't news.

inverted ATX plus the mass acceptance of IMCs means BTX is pointless anyway.
