Arir127, for a temporary fix you could purchase a SATA PCI card and run it off of that. Have you tried other sata ports on your motherboard? Have you tried a different cable? How are you accessing your sata drive if the port "stopped working"?

Good luck

Reviving an old thread, but this actually sounds like a permissions issue as well as a hardware one.

What revision is your motherboard? There are known issues with the initial releases with the A8V and SATA ports which leads me to my next question, which ports are you using, have you tried all of them? Depending on the ports you'll need to install the SATA/RAID drivers otherwise the board won't detect the drives correctly. I found that out the hard way.

If you can see the SATA disks, which is what I presume from your explanation, then you need to change the permission to whatever folder (or HDD) if you're using Windows XP then follow these instructions, should be something like, it's been a long time since I've dicked about with permissions...

1. Open Explorer. Windows Key + E will do this quickly.
2. Click on Tools -> Folder Options.
3. Click on View.
4. Select “Show hidden files and folders”, Uncheck “Hide extensions for known file types”, then uncheck “Hide protected operating system files”. (if it throws a fit on the 3rd option, just tell it yes.)
5. Scroll to the bottom, uncheck “Use simple file sharing”.
6. Click Ok.
7. Close and Restart Explorer.

Now we need to fix the permissions.

1. Browse to the folder you can’t get into.
2. Right click, select properties, select the security tab. It may throw a fit at this point that you only have rights to view the files. If not, go to step 5.
3. Select the button marked “Advanced” and go to the “owner” tab. Take ownership of the folder as administrator. Be sure to check “Replace owner on subcontainers and objects”.
4. Once that’s done, click ok all the way out. Then go back into properties, then permissions.
5. Click the “Add” button. Type “everyone” in the small text box at the bottom, then click ok. Give said user full permission to the folder. Click ok. If it asks if you want to apply to all sub folders, say yes.

Like I said, it's been a while so I'm might be a little off in my description. Right, back to finding threads on my current 939 board - MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum.

Don't hesitate to PM if you need any further assistance.
