I went from a zalman to what i have in my sig now. I got a big difference in temps. About a 12c drop all around. Load to the "cpu" is now 36c, on air it was 48c. The cores are buggy, but it shows a 10 difference as well. I don't know why people keep going by the core temps (tj) instead of the cpu temp (tcase). After all the 74c max on intel's site, is for the tcase sensor. The CPU temp fluctuates perfectly. With 21c idle.

With stock clocks and voltage with my water cooling, the load temp is virtually the same as the idle temp, doesn't move.

Everyone says temps are not an issue with these, i think they're wrong. People are killing these chips with air cooling, they're overheating.

For all who voted for other MOBO, what do you all have in mind? As for a clear winner, most voted for the EVGA 780i A1 MOBO. Cool, that's what I got! Anyhow, anyone disagree or have anything to add, please do so.

E8400 3.4ghz (378x9) @ stock voltage. I've already gotten it to 4.0ghz on stock cooler, but it was way too hot, so I went down to 3.4. I'll probably go 4.0ghz once my TRUE arrives this week.

its the tjunctoin that triggers throttling of the cores (they slow themselve down to keep cool) and there is no point overclocking to 5ghz if it throttles to 3 evrytime you put it under load. better to have it with no throttle at 4ghz.

E8400 here @stock for now, I RMA my Striker Extreme 680i and in the meantime I got the Gigabyte GA-P31-DS3L mobo with E8400 CPU runing at stock.
I run 3DMark06 with 11588 score where with my previous setup(Striker Extreme 680i with Q6600) in stock i got 11450 score.
So in stock the is not much difference betwen those chips in 3DMark06 tests.
