Good evening all. I am a new member, my friend directed me to this site as I have decided to move into high performance PC clocking. I have bought some new hardware of late, most noticeable is the processor (E8200) RAM (4GB Patriot) and a new motherboard (P5K/EPU).

The video card I have had for a little while now. It's an asusTEK 7900GT, only 256MB with 256-bit interface.

The case I have is certainly no use to me for my overclocking fun, this will be upgraded (along with the 580Watt APower PSU). I am posting on here to ask for some real advice regarding system overclocking. I wish to have a silent PC (as quiet as possible) yet the idea of water cooling doesn't appeal .

Enough of the yack, basically I feel my Motherboard, RAM and CPU are okay for my intentions (please correct me if I am wrong). I ask you all this:

-SLI NVidia config? I have heard 8800GTS is fine SLI x 2 512MB cards... But for overclocking?

-Case, my iCute case isn't adequate for this. I have looked at Thermaltake but I was wondering about any personal prefs of the community and why they choose them. (Please bear in mind I was looking to spend ~$250-300 USD on a case- if that will buy anything.)

-Cooling, FANS are what I want to use, but I am not too keen on the ones I have at the moment. they are generic: 2 x 80mm (one red one blue), both run pretty loud at ~2000 RPM. I also have a 120mm fan, iCute brand, this appears to run well but I am not convinced entirely.

From the looks of what I have seen lurking on here for a couple of days now, many people use fan/air cooling for their rigs. Is this okay? Are people happy with the dB?

Lastly, as you will see in the picture linked, my CPU is overclocked at the moment from 2.66GHz - ~ 3.2GHz, my FSB is rated @ 1596MHz and as the PC probe program shows the CPU and mobo are still within optimal range. Should I invest in Zalman type CPU cooling or something similar?

PS! Please ignore the drastically high ATI tools temp for my GPU, the program has been acting a little funny (it tells me now the GPU is ~60 degrees celsius)

I am sorry if I have posted this in the wrong forum / thread. As I am a keen fan of my 45 nm CPU and want to learn what this processor can do I thought this would be a great place to start.

BTW, I forgot to open super_pi to show the calculation of 1 million decimal places, but it took 14 seconds to achieve this, is that okay? Also, my vista rating is 5.7 (CPU base) although I have seen this doesn't mean much at all!

Thanks for your time and patience to read through my queries

Enjoy the evening all!

Hail!

ishtar

G'day all, I recently got myself a 45nm myself and I'm still trying to overclock it without it BSODing on me. I'm currently running a Q9450 at 2.9GHz (1.200V)

benfica it could be that your sensors are stuck at 33c i have 1 stuck at 31c and the lowest i have seen the other is 25c.

right now my cpu temp is ment to be 20c and the cores are 25/31 so....

ishta you need to get rivatuner to turn up the fan speed on the gpus so they dont get that warm, the heat will bump up your mobo temp too.
