DVD: Incompatible Disc and Decoder Regions

Thread Starter
I watch a lot of my DVDs right off of my hard drive. These are full rip DVDs that play through the VIDEO_TS.IFO file. Usually in MPC. This works great for me, I've got a whole library of DVDs ripped on my hard drive that I play with lossless quality. No problems.

However I needed more space so I recently bought a WD 500GB external hard drive and moved many of my titles over to this hard drive. Now when I go to play the DVDs out of MPC I get this message: "DVD: Incompatible Disc and Decoder Regions". (I have not yet deleted the movies from my original drive, because I wanted to make sure they played from the external hard drive first.)

That's crazy because I have never gotten this message, I can also play the exact same title off my Seagate drive and I get no error. FYI I get the same message out of Windows Media Player.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You dint install any software provided by WD did you ? I am not sure which , but some drives usually prevent copied stuff to be played.

By law it is ILLEGAL to backup DVD Movie content to any other medium than it was not originally intended for.

To RIP a DVD/Bu-ray/HD-DVD in the fasion and format you have discussed requires you to break the Copyright protection format on that DVD/Bu-ray/HD-DVD. Breaking Copyright protection is Illegal and thus cannot be discussed here.
