laptop with a little bit of gaming power

Thread Starter
i know absolutely nothing about laptop hardware, so i need your help.

i'm looking to pay around 1500$. mostly to do some internet and office work, but i'd like to be able to play games from time to time. don't care about the quality of the graphics, as long as the most recent games run. hard drive around 160gig. 2 gigs of RAM. dual core of course. decent battery life (swappable if possible)

go

keep in mind the 8600 'gt' is a big step up from the crippled 8600 'gs'. I think the dell is your best bet for performance and look at a reasonable price. I think the dell vostro's (business) have rebates at various times (last one I saw was 500$ off). They have a same guts but are built cheaper and don't look as nice. they have a model with the 8600 gt in it. If you want to go cheap (like i did) i bought an Acer 5920G with a penryn proc (t8100) and 8600GT 512mb, 250gb hd, 3 gb ddr2 667 for 1100$ here in canada. In the states I bet those Acer's go for even cheaper. It aint pretty but its quick and I've had no issues with it (although I think acer is known for being buggy sometimes). Check out these options. Laptops from specialty companies are ripoffs (alienware, falcon northwest etc.)

p.s. I think the best card for the reasonable portable laptop is either an 8600gt or 9500gs. If you want a desktop replacement that you don't want to carry go for a 17" then the cards they have can start to rival desktop video cards (ie 8800m gts)

NAH U BOTH ARE WRONG i go with the gateway FX seriose cuz it got 8800gtx or 880gts and play all the latest game!!! find them at best buy for 1200 buck. i go buy that if i had the money. the price per performance i think is a very good buy and u dont get a crappy 8600 with 128 bit stream.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1195599780039
this one i think is the best for the price 512 ddr3 8800gts very good deal

or go on ebay
and pick up a dell 9300 with a 7800gtx for 750.

http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/X...6800_Notebook/

customize it with a T9300 (2.5Ghz penryn), vista home premium 64-bit, 1GB of RAM, 160GB 7200rpm HDD, then get http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227251 for $60.that is around $1350.
