Commando help... not sure if it's board or chip

Ok, I'm pretty sure it's not the board because I RMA'd it and when I just assembled everything back up, it still doesn't boot up. It DID however this time get past the CPU INIT and to the DET DRAM on the LCD Post display. I'm kind of stumped right now. Could it be a dead cpu?

I was thinking about getting the quad core 2.4 that's out now, so maybe this will be a good reason, but I don't want to get it and then find out that the chip wasn't the problem. Any ideas?

You can probably rule out your board if your HDD boots up. HDD's usually fail to start/boot if your motherboard is fried. I think you can rule out your ram too since you have a boot up screen same for graphics and stuff so its probably the CPU. Can you go into the bios ?

HD doesn't boot up, no spin, no beep. No graphics appear onscreen at all. Fans spin up, I hear a drive move or something, but no spinning of hd's.... The mobo lights up too.

You typed: "HD doesn't boot up". Later on you type: "I hear a drive move or something, but no spinning of hd's".

Put your hand on the drive and feel if there's any vibration on boot. You have to be sure about the HDD not booting. If it isnt then I think your motherboard is dead.

Dont have any spare parts you can exchange/test with or something ?

When the system is turned on does the screen come up at all? If it does come up it will flash your video card specs then go to Commando screen with the R.O.G(Republic Of Gammers) logo. At this point hit delete to get to your BIOS screen to run your setup. If no screen is showing at all try a different video card. The CPU power connector should be installed on the right side of the eight pin connector. You may also need to flsh the BIOS with an update for that CPU as I had to do(C2D E6750). Is your hd EIDE or SATA? Also are you trying to run RAID? I have had fun with this board (Commando) and it overclocks like mad.

Here's what I found to be the problem: One of my ram sticks apparently died (again). I don't know what's going on, but this will be the 3rd time I've RMA'd them, and every time I was running them at Ramguy's recommended settings.

Good job trouble shooting. I just stepped up to the XM for overclocking. I did a complete reboot or reinstall. See if they will upgrade to the next level on that memory.
