Just Installed Vista Update, Now DvD Drives Will not Show..

Hey Guys,

I Just Installed 2 Windows Updates. When I rebooted Both of my Dvd Drives will not show up. I have Changed the IDE Cables, and power sources to rule out drive failure. The drives are in perfect working order and are even detected in BIOS. My question is, How can I get my drives up and running again? I already did the, Cp-> Admin Tools->Computer Manage.-> Storage-> Disk management, and they do not show up there. So I am at a loss. Is there anyway to fix this error? Or just System restore and not install the updates again?

These are the two updates I installed:

Group Policy Preference Client Side Extensions for Windows Vista x64 Edition (KB943729)

Installation date: ‎3/‎26/‎2008 5:40 PM

Installation status: Successful

and

Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB936181)

Installation date: ‎3/‎26/‎2008 5:39 PM

Installation status: Successful

Wow, This is weird. I just put the Windows Vista Ultimate disk in, and rebooted. Then it loaded to the Install screen, I canceled it. And rebooted to the already installed vista, and now It detects my drive in vista... Thanks to all that help!

Did the drive show up in device manager?? If it did but did not show anywhere else, try doing a google search for Upper and lower filters and remove those from the registry. I realized that you got it straightened out, just want to see if we can figure it out, in case it happens to anyone else.

Did it take a long time to install any updates for you? I tried awhile back, and today, installing updates, but it takes forever "Configuring Updates", then takes even longer "Shutting Down". Im talking like over 2 hours. I just get fed up and reset the computer and system restore. Won't be trying that again.
