Need some help with my final vcard decision

Hello all,
The reason I am asking this is because I am in a odd place. I had a 7600gs, and it became a paperwieght so had to get something else, and the 9600gt where cheap so I picked on up until i would get my final vcard. This card is going to go to my wife because she has a 7600gs too. So here are I am looking at, going with a 9800gx2(someday maybe sli), 9800gtx sli (for sure when I see more bench), 9600 gt sli, 8800gtx sli, or 8800gts sli. I am pulling more to the 9800 gx2 just because its new, I am having to get new anyway I figure I have the dough to do it I might as well get the flagship card. But I am not sure. I mean its not like I had a 8800gtx or gts to know if I will be disappointed in the card. I am very happy in the increase I see from 7600gs to 9600gt, but DUH. I want to get some input from people that have been keep more up todate with the cards and see which road is better, as far as money I would reither get a card or cards that will make it better for game play then just get a card becasue its cheap. I play games like Vangaurd, Age of Conan (when released), Assassin Creed, Half Life 2, Bio shock, Witcher, etc so want to be able to max out and make the games as beautiful as the can be, but again I am not sure what AA and AF does, right now I just use what ever the game is set to on AF and AA is 0 so if it help the game look better I want to be able to max them out. Also I am on a 28'' monitor and sometimes on a 47''. I am play on 1920x1080 but this is my first time also out side of 1024x786 so still learning what higher res i like. so plz keep that in mind. Thank you all. You guys have always helped me out in the past.

The 9600GT is a very good card, but you'll need a bit more firepower for the 1920x1080 screen (1080p HDTV, I assume?).

The best card for that size and resolution would be the 8800GTS 512MB; it is basically the replacement for the 8800GTX, and performs very well.

You cant beat 9600gt's in sli for the price, but if you feel compelled to spend more get the gx2.

well I am not compelled to spend more, just want to make sure I can max out graphic on a game, and again not sure if AA and AF will make it better if they are on or maxed, so I am wanting a card that can do all this and also have head room for OCing and for new games. I am one that doesnt bank on the next card and i will wait. I would reither get a great card now, and if the next card comes out and its better by far upgrade. because it could be crap and then i am wishing i wouldnt have waited. Anyways, just want to make sure I get great graphics and not dispointed like i was with my 7600gs. So is you where me and jsut went from 7600gs to 9600gt and had money to get a 9800gx2 or gtx(sli) or something else in sli what would you do?
