New IEM, one earpiece much louder?

Thread Starter
I just got some super-fi 5 pro's, and one earpiece is alot louder then the other. Is there anything I can do, or do I have to RMA them?

Check that the cable to the quieter one is without kinks, gashs, fraying, etc, as any of these will effect the quality of audio at the end. It could also be the source, I'd suggest trying another source or two, just to see.

The cable looks fine. I literally took these brand-new out of the box minuets ago. I've tried using different (and no) eartips, and also my latop with the same results.

If I have to RMA, would it be better to go through the manufacturer (seeing as it's a defect they must have been made with), or the site I bought them from?

(edit) looking at ultimate ears site, they say this... I guess I'll have to try it:
  1. Check your Cables: The super.fi and triple.fi series have been uniquely designed so that the cable is detachable, therefore replaceable. If you are experiencing static or distortion or if one side is louder than the other, you probably have an easy to fix cable issue. Please note that this quick-fix tip does not apply to the metro.fi series
    1. Please detach the cable where the cable and the ear bud meet.
    2. Hold on to the thickest part of the cable (square plastic emblem) and the ear bud and apply a little pressure and pull the cable right out.
    3. After you have done this, switch the cables (reverse them) and take a listen. If the same problem transposes to the different ear, the problem is within the cable. You do not need to send your unit in for repair. If your unit is still under warranty, we will send you a new cable. Call 866-837-7734 or email superficare@ultimateears.com Sometimes just reattaching the cable solves all problems – like giving the earphones a jumpstart.
  2. Check your Seal: In most cases, less than optimal sound is due to an improper seal. If your product sounds thin or tinny, it is not fitting well and this is affecting the seal. This can be easily resolved. Please view our Proper Insertion Technique video. If your sound is still less than optimal or you are still having difficulty getting that perfect fit, please try this user-generated modification.
If these tips do not solve your problems and you still believe that your product needs repair or replacement and your product is covered under warranty, please register your product first if you have not done so already. After registering your product, you may request an RMA #.

Okay cool, I took the earbuds off and put them on again and it's working fine now. I guess one was just a little loose or something.

No, my seal was fine, you could take the headphones off and still hear the difference lol. One side of the cord was just loose or something. It must be a fairly common thing since they mention it specifically on their site.

I've had that with many IEMs in the past...the fit was just a bit off, as my right ear canal is retardly shaped. I'm getting a pair of customs soon.
