ok, couple of updates. i wiped my hard drive and reinstalled vista.

how bout: i never installed any drivers. well, i installed drivers for my 8800gt's, but since everything worked fine (HD, DVD-ROM, mobo), i never installed anything other than what vista installed at first. for example, i just put the mobo disk into the drive for the first time, and am installed all the crap from that.

Are you still getting blue screens? If so when?

Did you update your Bios? From what I've heard about these boards I still say that was most likely the problem.

Have you run a memory test? Have you run a graphics card test?

i'm not getting blue screens right now, but i'm at stock 2.4. just got 12535 on 3dmark. Wow, that's low.

I haven't updated my BIOS, or run a memory test. My bios and memory were fine before i tried adding more ram, so i'm going to see if just leaving the ram out takes me back to where i was before (all games fine, 3dmark high 17s)

When I used to get that error I thought it was bad drivers, but come to find out it was a bad hard drive which was causing my malfunction.

That one generally indicates a hardware failure or incompatible driver of some sorts. Are you at stock settings now? Have you tried to run any diagnostic software to see if you have a bad ram stick or hard drive?

Hard disk diagnostic software ---> http://support.wdc.com/download/inde...pid=15&swid=30

Memory Diagnostic Software ----> http://www.memtest.org/#downiso

you will need a blank cd for each.

i'm sorry guys, it's not your fault, but i think i'm in way over my head. i dropped almost 2 grand on a system that SUCKS. it shouldn't be this difficult to add ram, neither should it be this difficult to diagnose a problem. the advice i've received has literally been all over the map (or the computer case), bad drivers, bad hard drive, bad bios, bad motherboard, etc.

buildign and overclocking was alot of fun before this - now it's not worth it. but what choice do i have, i can't just return all of this stuff like i returned my dell, i've overclocked it. to be honest, i'm beginning to resign myself to having wasted 2 grand.

i can't even boot now to windows, it says:

file: \\windows\\system32\\drivers\
tfs.sys
status: 0xc0000221
info: windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing, or corrupt
