Dynex 500 watt?

Thread Starter
This one's for you jonnyGURU.
I bought one of those $20 Dynex case and PSU from best buy for a friends budget build.
The PSU is made by Shenzhen Chi Yuan Ind. Co. Ltd.
Here is the UL link it's the DX-PS500W PSU.
How big of a steaming pile of crap is this thing and should I just figure I got a $20 case or is this thing usable?
Thanks for any info.

Well the box says 80% efficient and the sticker says 130 watts for the 3.3v and 5v
And 2 12v rails one with 15 amp and the other with 18 amp
Doesn't say max watts on 12v but I assume 370 watts so thats 31 amps max.
Just curious if I should wait to the forth of July to plug it in or is it usable.

15 and 18 amp rails aren't too bad for a budget build, I don't think I would go run an 8800Gt on it lol but for just a low end internet surfer its fine.

It's a Huntkey 500W, 500W peak @ 25°C. Only about 400W continuous and that's still at 25°C. Still better than Deer, Powmax, Codegen, etc.

For $20, you did good. But don't power ANYTHING that has a graphics card requiring a PCIe power connectors or a rig with more than a couple HDD's in it, etc.

But it is fairly efficient and does have all of the proper safety protection in place.
