Choice Between 9600 and 8800...

Thread Starter
So I recently met my savings-goal for a graphics-card upgrade. I have about 200-$230 to spend. And Im wondering...

Do I go with the "New" Geforce 9 line, and pray that the 9600 isnt as "Meh..." then the 8600?

Or do I go with the 8800GT?

The 8800GT at 9600GT are VERY similar, but the 9600GT pulls ahead in low-res (1440 x 900 and below) apps, and with AA enabled, and has more potential with driver updates, and is a bit cheaper. For now, I personally would grab a 9600GT. But that is just my opinion, someone may be much more up-to-date

If you have a low end monitor with low resolution, go with the 9600GT at lower resolutions.
If you have a bigger, better monitor, well, the better the video card, the better.
Prices are coming down, wait a little longer.

8800GT always beats the 9600GT assuming it is the 512MB version.

You can see this at www.hardocp.com and other various review sites.

I've heard many cases of the 9600GT winning in low-res, AA-enabled sitatuions, which are it's strength. And in reality they are two different cards, the 9600 is meant to be mid-range, while the 8800gt is high-range, there can be almost a 100$ difference between them.
