Rambus stayed alive for so long because:

1) Constantly suing company's because they claim they are the orriginal DDR makers.

2) XDR or something like that ram for consoles.

XDR doesnt need to be in graphics cards, That's why we have GDDR for our graphics applications. Mabey G-XDR if we want our cards to double in price. GT200 (256 G-XDR @ 3200MHZ effective) 800$

gDDR is just a variant of regular GDDR.

it still isn't OCTUPLE DATA RATE.
and XDR is able to push 100GB/s or so on a 256bit bus. now gDDR5 is supposed to be around the corner but... so is XDR2...

Well the point is RAMBUS stands to make a few 100 million dollars in the next week
who knows what will become of the market now.
Hopefully we consumers will get treated to some new ram standards that can pale
DDR in comparison. It would be nice.
