CPU Core Temps Question

Thread Starter
Any idea why my core temperatures are so different?

Everest and core temp report that CPU cores 3 and 4 are at least 10 degs C higer than cores 1 and 2.

At idle cores 1 and 2 are around 28 and cores 3 and 4 are around 38.

it could be that your thermal compound isn't spread evenly. there is always a difference, usually 2c to 5c difference. a 10c difference is a bit too much, its ok, but you might want to reseat it again to see if you can get those temps closer.

Thanks for the feedback +reps. I might have a go at reseating, do you think that it's worth lapping the cpuas well while I'm at it, will it make much difference? The contact surface of my Zalman cooler was like a mirror so I don't think there is a problem there but the cpu surface looked like it could have been a bit smoother.

Yes it will make a difference for sure...so long as you do it properly. Don't bother lapping the cooler if its surface is not concave. However if you are happy with your temps after applying the thermal paste maybe it could be a good idea not to lap since this will cancel the warranty of your very expensive CPU.
Hope this helped!

yannis, thanks this does help +rep. If lapping would void my warranty I don't think I'll do it, but I will have a go at applying AS2 again.

I guess I would wait too with your chip, but lapping is the bomb. It really drops those temps.
