Get a QX 9650, some DDR3 with a X48, a 3870X2, a nice audio card(I'm sure you know more about this than me), a 15k rpm HDD(or maybe SSD?) with a secondary 1TB HDD. Throw it all together in a nice water cooling setup and try and tune it extensively. Like, try for the fastest startup times, gaming FPS, 3dMark etc...

for hardware, i would wait until you have all the money. THEN get a hardware list together. new stuff is always being released and if you make a list now it will be obsolete or just WAY cheaper by the time you have the money to buy stuff.

Well congratulations on the fact that your going to be building your first pc. I am assuming your sig rig is the proposed specs of the build? First thing I would change would be to change to an intel processor.

Get two 9800 GX2's possibly... the rig has a ton of possibilities. But one question, are you really going to need to spend $3000 on this rig? If I were you I would spend around $2000 and use the rest for upgrades down the road.

Congratulation. Tech stuff depreciates so quickly. I think the key is to identify the balance of performance vs. price. In most cases, extra several hundreds just get few percentages of performance boost. Based on your description, $1800-$2000 should be a very good rig.

Yes exactly, get a X38 board, X48 doesnt look that nice, or a 780i board. DDR2 + DDR3 memory, get a mobo that supports both. 150gb raptor Hard drive, 500GB-1TB in 7200rpm hard drives. Video cards are gonna be a tough choice. IMO go for 1 9800GTX, or a 8800GTS, and later SLI if you NEED the power. Thermaltake toughpower 1000w PSU. Get a Cosmos s case, or the original one (i like better) get a nice x-fi audio card. DVD SATA burner w lightscribe. I would go air cooling over water cooling, easier to manage, so go for the Q9450, Q6600, or E8400 if you dont want to go quad. Get a Noctua NH-U12F HSF to cool that. Some nice ballistix ram. DDR2 800MHZ 2gb set, or 4gb if you feel the need. This might add up to...$2200? Thats an esitmate btw

I don't plan on spending all $3,000. yomama9388, The sig is my current system. I will ask what to get in later forums. Not deciding till september. I am also trading my Phenom for en E8400 anyway, waiting for my paycheck.
