Thread Starter
I am hearing such good things about this q9450.

But good enough things to sell my month and a half old e8400?

Yes I would. It's a quad core and those things get great benchmark scores

I agree that if you need an overall performer and higher benchmarks on 3DMARK06 and the forthcoming Vantage. Still, just wait and see how well they are going to clock and perform/behave in general before you move to the Q9450.

No rushing. Just wait week or so to see some real numbers first.

My friend games in competitions (BF2 and COD4). I had to work really hard to convince him to go with an E8400 over the Q9450 for gaming (he is currently running an E6600). I just dont know how well they will overclock with the 8 multi considering current quads are limiting boards to a 450FSB. That would mean that the Q9450, if it criples the FSB of the board, will max out at about 3.6GHz...

Yeah, I compete in COD4, COD2, and soon to be Rainbow Six Vegas 2. I have been running this e8400, and loving it. The 9x multi is great for overclocking, and it runs 3.0 ghz stock. I basically run this thing at 4.2 ghz all the time. I am really wondering if I am going to see much difference with 45nm Quad vs Dual in games coming out this year.

I guess there will not be that many coming out with quad-core utilization this year...about a handful i guess (maybe i am too optimistic)...i suppose in this case more than a handful would not be a waste

you most likely wont..no games utilize 4 cores at the moment and a 4.2ghz core 2 is unbeatable in gaming..i dont think any quad will reach 4.2 as easy as the wolfdales.
