Q9450 vs Q6600 STOCKSPEED - Page 2

Well I was wrong. It has an advantage over a Q6600. Though its not worth the price difference.

Put the Q9450 aside, obviously even a Q6600 set to 333x8 will beat its stock speed of 266x9.

Comparing a 45nm quad to a 65nm quad will obviously show the 45nm as having the advantage.

Comparing a 2.4ghz Q6600 to a 2.66 improved Q9450...

is that even a fair benchmark?

*edit* uh. i can't find that forum thingy about the 3.6 ghz and 3.7 ghz, i guess we'll have to wait a few more days for the benchmark results to be posted o_o
... You are definately wrong. Why would newer technology be slower than the old in the first place? Furthermore, the more cache it has the faster it is (not all the time in real world, but it is definately not slower with more cache).

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=173287

That is the thread comparing the two at 3.6.

3.6 Q9450 = 3.8 Q6600

The Q9450 will probably have a slightly higher FSB Wall over the Q6600, but still similar problems with low FSB Walls on quad cores. Guess it all depends on the mobo.

See the problem at this point doesn't have anything to do with architecture, its more like the battle of the multipliers. A mobo can only go so far, and once you hit that point they will be dead even, because the 9450 will be a faster proc at a slower speed, but the 6600 will be a slower proc at a faster speed. I havent tried taking my mobo past 1600 yet, but at x9 my 6600 is at 3.6, with a 9450 at x8 though, i would be at 3.2.

I think it would be better for me to take the $300+ that it would take to get a 9450 and put it towards watercooling the cpu and the mobo, and I would still be better off with the 6600
