[vr-zone] RV770 final specs revealed - Page 3

I really don't know how much a 512-bit bus improves performance but a lot of people attribute the 2900's killer 3DMark performance to that. A lot of other people say the 3800 series would have stomped the 8800GT if it had a 512-bit bus.

It's alright, though. I'm done with upgrading my computer. I may shove in some Ballistix or another 3870+new PSU but as for CPU and mobo upgrades, I'm waiting until Nehalem... or at the most, Nehalem's die shrink.

haha, yea their drivers suck but at least they work. Unlike nvidia which releases drivers that crash.

I cannot understand why ATI doesn't try a bit harder with their drivers. Still as danewfie says and according to a research recently published (it is posted on the software news section of the forum) nVidia drivers are quite bad in some senses (though the research might apply to older GPUs-drivers).

They will make the switch to 45 nm next june, if ATi's new tick-tock strategy holds true (1 year lifecycle for initial release, then 6 months life for a refresh based on a smaller process). I guess the rumors about 800 sp's were wrong, they seemed a little ridiculous anyway.

This is what i expected from R700 TBH, I guess we'll have to see how these cards OC. In any case, 4870x2 here i come!!

Heck yeah! I'm all about nvidia being tromped for a bit, and watch those nvidia fanboys whimper for a while. I doubt you would be able to crossfire a 3870 though, and if you could, you probably won't want to because it would limit the 48xx card's potential

Nope, you won't be able to. Crossfire only works with cards that share the same core, whatever it may be. That's why you can mix and match the 3850/3870/3870x2, but you can't crossfire, say a 2900xt with a 3870.

The release date for these are June 2008. Anyone know if Nvidia is releasing a 10 series around the same time to compete? Or if not will there be a 10 series at all this year?

I've heard late Q3/ early Q4. But there have been rumors NV already has the geforce 10 series ready, they are just waiting for ATi to release R700 though. I doubt that rumor, as original projections said the end of this year.
