That's what we all said when the first specs of R600 came out... Hopefully the increase in TMUs and ROPs will give R700 a significiant boost in performance.

no i know that you can't cf the 3800 series with anything below it, but what I am saying is that I thought with the CFX drivers you could CFX any two card combinations with the 3800 series and up

I could be totally wrong. but thats what i thought I read somewhere

This is the best laugh I've had in quite some time. Those are the most unrealistic specs I've ever seen, including the 2900XT's. $299 for a Teraflop? I'll believe it when the card is sitting in my lap.

NOTHING can overcome a small bus width. Why doesn't this make sense to anyone. Bus width does contribute to overall memory bandwidth (in fact, its more important than the memory clock), but it does OH so much more than that. I'd take 512bit GDDR4 at 2000Mhz > 256bit GDDR5 at 3000Mhz any day.

What? WHAT?!

4870 = 1 card, 1 core, 1GB
4870x2 = 1 card, 1 pcb, 1 bus.

Nowhere does it mention 2 buses...

Edit: It is a 512-bit for the X2, look at the specs, its 256-bit per one RV770

And the guy who posted earlier about the bus width, take into consideration that it's not the only factor in determining memory performance, and also consider how much more the GPU would cost if they made it 512-bit per core. ATI/AMD would lose huge amounts of money at this point.

umm 1 gig on 256bit mem bus with gddr5????uh...what happened to the 512bit like the 2900xt...and to the x2 version, 2 gigs on a 512 bit...not bad really, since i dont think games will scale that high

i agree that a single 3870 or an even cheaper model will suffice until you get the 4870x2 monster
well i have to because my new build is using my old computer's graphics card. so here are my options (man prices have freaking dropped lol)

Open Box: ASUS EAH3870/G/HTDI/512M Radeon HD 3870 512MB 256-bit GDDR4 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card 150 - 170 i believe

MSI NX8800GT 512M OC GeForce 8800GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail on sale for 180 with MIR

DIAMOND Viper 3870PE4512SB Radeon HD 3870 512MB 256-bit GDDR4 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail on sale for 165 with MIR

to me that GT is the best deal, and im leaning towards it anyway, but what do people suggest for a temp card until 4870x2? and i have a maximus formula motherboard with CF, but you really cant crossfire between a 3870 and say a 4870? that would be great if you could.
