Pentium D 820 Died?

Thread Starter
ok.. here is wat happened..
i tried to remove the IHS on my p-d..
it turned out not successful and i stopped half way..
then i decided to lapped it..
after lapping it, i placed everything back n switched it on..
and the whole sys wont boot.. even the post msg.. nthg showed on the screen... the hdd light was on and blinking... psu was running fine and think no problems wif the ram n hdd...

b4 switching it on, i removed my graphic card to change the cmos battery
and did some cleaning on the m/b wif a dry brush...

now is the m/b died bcoz something went wrong or i broke the p-d core during the IHS removal?

if the p-d has died, i will be getting another cpu frm the E2XXX series.. which 1 is better.. i heard tat E2180 has a higher oc capability.

thanx...

All overclock equally in my opinion. I sugest getting the cheapest one with the largest amount of cache.

And you should never brush your board. Use compressed air.

I jus want to know how to identified whether the M/B or the CPU has broke down. So i dont get the wrong replacement for them.

N does a larger cache really helps?

thanx...

but he said HDD blinks, I have experience with old 9600XT work on a intel board for 4 years stright and all the sudden don't work anymore replace to a system with msi board that had fx5700 and it work and of course the 5700 goes to the intel board and work,
means both card works but just choose not to work anymore on their original setup board,

isn't that odd?

You could try to remove the CPU altogether and see what happens if you turn it on. My money is on the CPU being dead.

If it's the CPU get a 2180 as it OCs quite decent, but before that, make sure you have the latest BIOS on your mobo, and that the mobo actually supports the CPU (on www.asus.com.tw )
